Repertoire
The CANTUS Singers' repertoire encompasses the major European schools of the past 600 years. Great care is taken to arrange well-balanced programmes to suit the performance occasion and situation. Recent concerts have variously included music by Praetorius, Bach, Byrd, Debussy, Dvořák, Parry, Kodály and Wishart.
There is a fairly high proportion of new music for each concert which gives a constant challenge to choir members, as well as introducing them to works which they might not otherwise encounter. Works are sung in their original languages wherever possible. Recent repertoire has included Der Geist hilft (Bach), Hear my prayer (Mendelssohn), Mass in D (Dvořák), and Russian sacred music. Work in current preparation is listed in the Choir Diary.
CANTUS concerts usually feature a renaissance, baroque or modern chamber music group, depending on the choral works in the programme, and performing opportunities exist for choir members who are also competent instrumentalists. Music performed has included Bach, Telemann, Fasch, Pärt and Duarte.
